Taste of Angus Festival Prepares To Tempt Tastebuds!

The delicious flavours of the county of Angus will once again be to the fore in March with the return of the ever-popular Taste of Angus Festival.

From 19-25 March, the Taste of Angus Festival 2018 will highlight the area’s first-class food and drink producers, excellent eating places and extensive range of fresh, seasonal ingredients with a mouthwatering programme of foodie events. From children’s pie-making classes to an evening of pizza, coffee and brownies, there’s something for all food fans!

During the Taste of Angus Festival, the Gin Bothy team will be welcoming gin lovers to their new premises on the outskirts of Kirriemuir from 11pm until 3pm every day, where they’ll be able to sample award-wining spirits and seasonally-produced fruit liqueurs. And, for those whose tipple of choice is vodka, on the evening of Tuesday, 20 March, Ogilvy Spirits will be providing a free tour of the farm-based distillery where they produce their premium potato vodka.

“The soil and climate of Angus is ideal for growing the quality potatoes which are the main ingredient of Ogilvy Vodka, highlighting our distillery’s ethos of ‘From ground to glass,’” said Graeme Jarron of Ogilvy Spirits. “We also use juice from locally-grown fruit in our vodka cocktails – personally, I can’t think of a better way to use the wonderful raspberries which grow on our doorstep.”

Another highlight of the Taste of Angus Festival will be a Walk & BBQ in the grounds of Hospitalfield House, on the outskirts of Arbroath, on Wednesday, March 21 (£15 per person). This guided stroll will explore the woodland and gardens around the historic house, concluding with a campfire and barbeque featuring local produce – and toasted marshmallows!

El Tajin, a Mexican restaurant located in Montrose, will be offering a Taste of Angus Menu during the festival which will include local ingredients such as Arbroath Smokies and locally-reared goat, lamb and pork. “Using local produce makes food taste fresher and tastier,” said El Tajin’s chef, Martha Doyle, who is from Veracruz in Mexico. “In particular, our customers love our tacos with goat meat sourced from Myreside Farm near Inverkeilor.”

Saturday, March 24 features two evening events which are expected to be highly popular. Ghosts and Grub combines a spooky ghost walk around the streets of Arbroath with a three course meal at Bon Bon Café showcasing many of Angus’ finest ingredients (£30 per person).

Meanwhile, at Broughty Golf Club in Monifieth, gin will be the main spirit in attendance, accompanied by pies and beer!

“The Angus Pie & Brew event is a collaborative celebration of local produce,” said Hayley Wilkes of WeeCOOK, who added that tickets to this event cost £20 per person. “WeeCOOK, Redcastle Brewery and Gintensify are coming together to provide a fun-filled evening of entertainment where our guests will find out more about and get to sample the pies made by WeeCOOK while also tasting local gin and beers.”
